I am City Councilmember Phil Brock, and I am running for re-election to the Santa Monica City Council in 2024. I currently serve as the Mayor of our great city. I have steadfastly stood for residents’ interests as we have weathered the unprecedented challenges and crises of the past four years.

I AM Listening To You! I promise to continue to listen and respond. The citizens of Santa Monica who have invested so much of their lives in their neighborhoods must be respected. Our citizens have wisdom; they know why they moved to this place and what they want the future of Santa Monica to be. I do not believe that high rises, massive developments, streets that become canyons of buildings, or roads that our families can't navigate are what my grandparents moved to Santa Monica for in the 1920s. My family certainly did not settle in Santa Monica to be plagued by rampant crime or to be afraid of the behavior on our streets. We must continue to restore public safety in our city. That is the highest priority our local government has in 2024.

I AM Committed to Restoring Public Safety! We must continue to work together to reduce crime and find viable homelessness solutions. Between the cacophony of major crime, burglaries, random assaults, and robberies, Santa Monica's dream is in danger of being lost. I am a Councilmember with a backbone, firmly committed to restoring the soul and safety of our city.

I Support Slow Growth and Reduced Traffic All of us live in this magical city because of the simplicity of fresh air, palm trees, the fog, the sun, the ocean, the nearby mountains, and our city's big, inclusive heart. I fear that heart is being lost. Big developers and the State of California want to take the heart out of our city, to replace it with tall, dense buildings and constant traffic jams. That is not why I stayed in the city I was born in, that's not why my mother is still here...it's the openness of Santa Monica that we like, it's that magical combination of great schools, superb green spaces, the ocean, the cool breezes and the notion that a city could be more humane, more livable and more unique that kept us here.

I Want to Hear From You! Santa Monica is a treasure...let's keep it that way. I want to hear from my neighbors. I am happy to meet on your street corner, in your backyard, via Zoom, at your favorite coffee shop, or on a walk to discuss the issues that are important to each of you.  I value your support.

Please Donate! My opponents are supported and financed by the long-established political machine in our town. My campaign is only supported by each of you, my neighbors in Santa Monica. We are in a fight for the soul and safety of our town. Please donate today! https://votebrock.org/contribute

Council Votes to Back Prop 36!

After a brief but spirited debate on crime and punishment, the City Council voted 4 to 3 Tuesday night to endorse a statewide measure that cracks down on repeat offenders.

The pro-law enforcement Council majority argued that Prop 36, which is leading in the polls by a large margin, would reverse polices that have for a decade created a revolving door for those who commit drug and retail related crimes.

Safety in Santa Monica

Just last night an SMC employee was shot in a school facility. Two weeks ago, a lunatic stole a knife in Target and seriously stabbed a policeman. Santa Monicans are naturally concerned with safety in our streets. We want to be able to shop unmolested. We want our homes and cars safe from break-ins. We want to be able to take a walk in the neighborhood after dinner unthreatened by mentally-ill individuals.
